The Empty Chair

As a Spiritutal Director, I always keep in mind that in addition to the person I'm working with, there is a third "person" in the meeting space. That is the Holy Spirit of God. My role is to guide a conversation, mostly by listening, knowing that the real work being done, and the important relationship is that of the person with their understanding of God. Some spiritual directors actually keep an empty chair in the meeting space to always remain aware of the presence and importance of the Holy Spirit.
